Some time ago, I heard in an interview that there was a fundamentally different view of the world in Europe in the 1600s. That view was "you do well when your neighbor does well." To this end, diplomacy and agreement was pursued more.
Then around that time, a change began... and the rest is history, as they say. Now the mainstream is to attack each other. Of course it is a failing method, but while it persists we all suffer.
